Welcome to
A-Plus Career Services
Did you know that up to 85% of jobs are found through effective networking?
Did you know that perhaps 5-10% of jobs are found through classified employment advertisements?
Did you know that as few as 2-3% of jobs are found through the Web-based job boards?
If you think networking sounds like a great career-advancement strategy, we agree with you and we are ready to help with the process.
What is career networking?
We like to think of effective career networking as getting to know people
on a social level, while informally making others aware of your unique qualifications
and experience on a professional level.
With networking there is also the "right time/right place" phenomenon. While attending a social engagement you may hear of a professional opportunity or learn of a requirement for which your talents and abilities would be directly applicable.
Encounters of this type can be particularly powerful, as you are not actively marketing yourself, you are simply presenting yourself as you are, allowing people to see you and learn about your professional qualities in a no pressure, no expectations environment.
How does our networking program work?
Some individuals may not intuitively know how to network effectively, or they may not presently have a pool of good professional contacts available.
To help these people we have designed a program which includes structured networking groups, professional/personal interest synchronization, and professional goal assessment.
Let's briefly discuss these terms-
Structured Networking Groups- These are organizations that schedule in-person meetings as well as other venues such as teleconferencing and e mail forums for members to connect and share career development leads with the help of facilitators. These groups are often formed around common professional interests or goals, making it easy to interact with a variety of people.
Professional/Personal Interest Synchronization- This essentially means doing what you enjoy. We will work with you to facilitate the combining of your personal and professional interests in your activities, and sharing those activities with others of like mind. In such an environment you will almost certainly form relationships which will have a positive influence on your career.
Professional Goal/Opportunity Assessment- Once you are involved in activities which have a strong potential for networking, it is essential that you know what you want in your career and are able to recognize and act on professional opportunities which support those goals.
We also coach our clients on the mechanics of successful career networking.
For example, one of the basic networking skills we teach is the "Elevator Speech", which is a one or two minute pitch, and is the answer to that most intimidating interview question-
"So, tell me something about your self..."
Our approach to career networking development is highly personalized.
We work very closely with our clients, empathizing with their particular situation and helping them to develop a successful career networking strategy.
